At least 12 passenger flights operated by European airlines received bomb threats on Thursday, prompting security checks and diversions across the continent, according to officials and reports.
The affected flights were travelling to several European cities, including Rome, Vienna, Brussels and Warsaw. However, airline and local authorities have not reported finding any suspicious items aboard the aircraft.
The latest incidents came after at least seven other planes were searched or diverted earlier in the week following similar bomb threats.
One of Thursday’s affected flights, Aer Lingus flight EI402 from Dublin to Rome, was diverted to a French military base following a bomb threat.
The French Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that the Airbus A320 was redirected to Évreux-Fauville Air Base in Normandy, northern France.
“The situation is being monitored in real time,” the office said.
Aer Lingus, Ireland’s national carrier, also confirmed the diversion, describing it as a security precaution.
The incidents have raised fresh security concerns for European aviation, coming amid repeated bomb threats targeting passenger aircraft across the region.
