Popular Nigerian rapper, Tochukwu Ojogwu, professionally known as Odumodublvck, has alleged that some musicians resort to voodoo and other spiritual practices in their desperation to produce hit songs.
The rapper made the claim during an appearance on the Tea With Tay podcast, where he discussed the challenges of achieving commercial success in Nigeria’s highly competitive music industry.
According to Odumodublvck, producing a hit song is far more difficult than many people imagine, with some musicians spending their entire careers without achieving a major breakthrough.
“Getting a hit song is not easy. Sometimes people even do jazz to get one. That is why you see some artists crashing out when they struggle to get a hit,” he said.
The rapper explained that the pressure to remain relevant and achieve commercial success could become overwhelming for artistes, particularly those struggling to gain widespread recognition.
He, however, praised Nigerian Afrobeats superstars Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido for their ability to consistently release successful songs over several years.
“Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido have been dropping hit songs consistently for years. You have to respect that. Some artistes never get a hit song throughout their careers,” he stated.
Odumodublvck’s remarks highlight the intense competition within Nigeria’s music industry, where artistes face enormous pressure to produce commercially successful records and sustain public attention.
Although the rapper alleged that some musicians engage in spiritual practices to secure hits, he did not identify any artiste involved or provide evidence to substantiate the claim.
His comments have nevertheless brought renewed attention to the pressures associated with achieving and sustaining success in the entertainment industry.
