Suspected political thugs on Saturday ambushed supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yankara town, Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, leaving several party members injured and a campaign vehicle burnt to ashes.

The violence erupted as party faithful travelled along the major highway to attend a campaign rally organized for the Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda.

Eyewitnesses stated that hostile youths barricaded the transit route designated for the campaign convoy, creating widespread pandemonium among residents and motorists.

A resident who spoke by telephone stated that two APC members sustained critical injuries during the melee, though the claim has not been independently verified by state authorities.

The Katsina State Police Command had not released an official statement or casualty update as of 9:10 p.m. on Saturday.

Confirming the assault, the Caucus Chairman of the Musa Adamu Network (MAN), Alhaji Nura Sule Yandaki, disclosed that he was travelling to the governor’s rally alongside 11 members of his executive team when their convoy was intercepted.

Yandaki explained that the confrontation began when an Islamic group held a Maulud procession along the thoroughfare, creating a disruption that hoodlums capitalized upon to launch attacks on passing vehicles.

The assailants set ablaze an operational vehicle belonging to the Musa Adamu Network during the altercation before security operatives moved to disperse the crowd.

The Secretary of the Musa Adamu Network, Shamsuddeen Sani Lema, condemned the ambush as a calculated attempt to derail democratic participation through thuggery and intimidation.
