The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) has concluded its 2026 National Conference and Exhibition with renewed calls for the insurance industry to play a greater role in infrastructure financing, domestic capital formation and Nigeria’s national development agenda.
The conference, held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, featured discussions on the theme, “Insurance: Infrastructure Financing and National Development Agenda,” with industry leaders highlighting the importance of insurance in managing risks associated with public assets and supporting long-term economic growth.
Among the speakers were the NCRIB President, Mrs Ekeoma Esther Ezeibe, and the Commissioner for Insurance, Mr Olusegun Omosehin, who shared insights into the role of the insurance sector in strengthening domestic capital formation under the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025 framework.
Keynote speakers, Alhaji Mohammed Kari and Mrs Barbara Izilein, also highlighted how strategic insurance mechanisms could help minimise risks associated with public infrastructure and safeguard investments in critical national assets.
The discussions underscored the potential of insurance to support infrastructure development by providing risk-management solutions and strengthening confidence in investments across key sectors of the economy.
The conference also featured a session on humanism delivered by retired Major General Benjamin Olufemi Sawyerr, while Mr Gboyega Lesi provided virtual insights into trade opportunities available to Nigerian businesses under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The AfCFTA session examined the opportunities presented by expanded continental trade and the role the insurance industry could play in supporting businesses operating across African markets.
The three-day event ended with a closing dinner and awards night, bringing together industry stakeholders to celebrate contributions to the development of the insurance sector and reinforce their commitment to building a united industry.
The organisers reiterated the vision of “One Insurance Industry,” emphasising collaboration among insurance brokers, insurers, regulators and other stakeholders to deepen the sector’s contribution to the Nigerian economy.
The event received support and goodwill from industry organisations, including The Linking Insurance Brokers Ltd., the Professional Insurance Ladies Association of Nigeria, the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria and the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).
The conference concluded with a renewed focus on collaboration, stronger risk-management practices and the mobilisation of insurance resources to support infrastructure financing and sustainable national development.
