Troops of the Nigerian military have killed 15 suspected terrorists in a precision air strike near Pulka in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, as security forces intensify operations against insurgents in the North-East.
The Nigerian Army said the operation was conducted at about 11:50 p.m. on Friday, October 23, following credible intelligence and confirmed sightings of terrorist movements in the area.
The Acting Military Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed the development in a statement on Saturday.
According to him, the air strike targeted terrorist elements operating north-west of Pulka, with the military subsequently deploying ground forces to exploit the area and consolidate the gains of the operation.
“The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has recorded another operational success with the neutralisation of 15 terrorists in a precision air strike north-west of Pulka in Gwoza LGA of Borno State,” the statement read.
Goni said the operation was part of sustained military offensives aimed at disrupting insurgent movements, weakening their operational capabilities and denying them freedom of action.
He described the strike as evidence of the role of intelligence-led targeting and coordinated military operations in the ongoing campaign against terrorism in the region.
“It also reflects the unwavering commitment of Operation HADIN KAI to denying terrorist groups freedom of action and preventing them from threatening communities within the theatre,” he said.
The military said the operation formed part of broader efforts involving intelligence gathering and the coordinated deployment of available military resources to maintain pressure on insurgent groups across the North-East.
Goni assured residents that troops would sustain ongoing operations, with a focus on protecting civilians, defeating terrorist and insurgent groups, and creating conditions for the return of normalcy to affected communities.
He also called on members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information about suspicious movements and activities.
“The continued partnership between the military and the civilian population remains essential to consolidating operational gains and achieving lasting peace and security across the North East,” he added.
The latest operation underscores the military’s continuing campaign against insurgency in Borno State, where security forces have sustained offensive operations to contain armed groups and improve security for residents.
The military said it would maintain the operational momentum, while cooperation between troops and local communities remains central to efforts to restore lasting peace and revive socio-economic activities across the region.
