President Bola Tinubu has expressed condolences to the family of former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, who died at the age of 71.
Tinubu described Uduaghan’s death as a great loss to his family, Delta State and Nigeria, acknowledging his contributions to public service and the development of the oil-rich state.
The president conveyed his condolences in a statement issued by the State House on Monday, October 19, 2026, in which he commiserated with the late governor’s family, the Delta State Government and the people of the state.
Tinubu said Uduaghan devoted his years in public office to the development of Delta State and service to the country.
Uduaghan, a medical doctor by profession, served as Delta State Commissioner for Health and Secretary to the State Government before being elected governor in 2007.
He served two consecutive terms, leaving office in 2015 after eight years at the helm of the state’s affairs.
According to the president, Uduaghan’s administration pursued initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare delivery and the overall welfare of residents.
Tinubu noted that the former governor remained active in Delta State’s political and socio-economic affairs after leaving office, contributing to democratic governance and public service.
“His passing is a great loss to his family, his community, Delta State, and the nation at large,” the president said.
He urged the people of Delta State to draw strength from Uduaghan’s years of service and the relationships he built across the country’s political and social landscape.
The president also extended his sympathies to the deceased’s wife, Roli; his children; his cousin and former Delta State Governor, James Ibori; as well as his friends and political associates.
“On behalf of my family, the Government, and the people of Nigeria, I extend my deepest sympathies,” Tinubu said.
He prayed that God would grant the late governor eternal rest and comfort his family and others mourning his death.
Uduaghan’s death marks the loss of a former state chief executive whose political career spanned key administrative positions in Delta State, from commissioner and secretary to the state government to governor between 2007 and 2015.
