An aspirant for the Lagos State House of Assembly to represent Agege Constituency 01 in the upcoming election, Olugbenga Abiola Agbelebu, has proposed the establishment of a dedicated micro-banking system offering loans at between zero and three percent interest to improve the welfare and mobility of teachers.

Addressing public school educators during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration organised by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Agege Branch, Agbelebu highlighted targeted welfare interventions and policy reforms designed to restore dignity to classroom instructors across Agege and Lagos State.

The legislative candidate, who is running to secure the Agege Constituency 01 seat in the state parliament, stated that accessible soft financing would resolve pressing transportation and personal needs for educators grappling with prevailing economic pressures.

Agbelebu called for the construction of dedicated Teachers’ Quarters within and around school premises, stressing that instructors deployed to schools far from their homes deserve decent, affordable, and accessible accommodation near their workplaces.

He noted that eliminating grueling daily transit would significantly reduce fatigue, improve punctuality, and enhance teaching performance across public institutions.

On school healthcare infrastructure, the assembly hopeful advocated for the upgrading of rudimentary school sickbays into modern, well-equipped clinics capable of delivering reliable basic medical treatment to both students and teachers.

Describing his relationship with the profession as deeply personal, Agbelebu revealed that being the child of teachers gave him a direct, lifelong understanding of their everyday sacrifices, community leadership, and role in nation-building.

He insisted that the welfare of teachers must transcend annual ceremonial tributes to become enforceable legislative policy, pledging to champion classroom welfare and educational investment if elected to represent Agege Constituency 01 in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
