Portugal coach Jorge Jesus has declined further comment on Cristiano Ronaldo’s public account of the dispute that led to the captain’s departure from the national team camp.
Jesus, speaking to journalists on Wednesday morning as he left for the Portuguese Football Federation headquarters, confirmed he had read Ronaldo’s lengthy statement released on Tuesday.
“I read the statement and now, like I do every day, I’m going to the Federation headquarters to work, to think about the Portuguese national team. I have nothing more to say,” Jesus said.
Ronaldo, 41, had used the statement to explain his version of events surrounding his decision to leave the Portugal camp during the recent international window.
The forward accused Jesus of breaking his word twice — first by failing to bring him on against Norway after asking him to warm up, and later by not sticking to agreed talking points at a press conference.
Jesus had previously insisted there was no lasting rift between them and maintained that Ronaldo remained available for future selection.
His latest response suggests the coach is keen to draw a line under the public disagreement and refocus attention on the national team.
The controversy has continued to dominate discussion around Portugal, with questions remaining over Ronaldo’s future role and whether the relationship between the captain and coach can be fully repaired.
