Maina Wanted Again As EFCC Cites Alleged Receipt Of Stolen Property

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.

The anti-graft agency announced the development in a wanted notice issued on Wednesday and signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale. The EFCC said Maina, 61, is an indigene of Biu, Borno State.

The commission appealed to members of the public with information about his whereabouts to contact any of its offices across the country or the nearest police station or other security agency.

The latest declaration comes against the background of Maina’s previous legal troubles involving alleged financial offences connected to the pension reform programme.

Maina was previously prosecuted by the EFCC over an alleged N2 billion pension-related fraud case. In November 2021, a Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him of money-laundering offences and sentenced him to eight years in prison.

He was subsequently released from correctional custody in February 2025 after serving part of his sentence, according to reports citing the Nigerian Correctional Service.

The EFCC’s latest notice specifically identifies the current allegation as receiving stolen property and does not provide further details about the alleged offence or when it occurred.
