The fashion industry is mourning the death of American model Presley Gerber, the son of legendary supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, who has died at the age of 27.
According to reports from the BBC, Gerber died on Sunday at a rehabilitation facility, based on records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. The cause of his death was not immediately disclosed.
A representative for Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber confirmed the death to CBS, saying the family was requesting privacy during what they described as a deeply painful period.
“The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,” the family said.
Presley Gerber followed the footsteps of his famous mother and younger sister, Kaia Gerber, by building a career in modelling. He made his runway debut at the age of 16 for Italian fashion house Moschino and later worked with major global brands including Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, and Bottega Veneta.
Beyond the runway, Gerber was also known for his close relationship with his family. He appeared alongside his sister Kaia in a Calvin Klein campaign in 2018 and featured with his mother in a Pepsi Super Bowl commercial the same year, decades after Crawford starred in the brand’s iconic 1992 advertisement.
His father, Rande Gerber, is a businessman and co-founder of Casamigos tequila alongside actor George Clooney.
Gerber had previously spoken publicly about his personal struggles, including mental health challenges and substance abuse. In a 2023 interview on the Studio 22 podcast, he said sharing his experiences could help others facing similar difficulties.
“Whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that’s all I need to do,” he said.
His younger sister, Kaia, also opened up about his struggles, describing how the experience affected their family and how Presley’s openness became an example for them.
Cindy Crawford had celebrated her son’s 27th birthday in July by sharing childhood photos of him on Instagram, expressing pride in the man he had become.
“I’m so proud of the man you’ve become, but I’ll always see you as my little boy! Love you,” she wrote.
Presley Gerber’s death has drawn tributes from fans and members of the fashion community, who remember him as a model who carried forward the legacy of one of the world’s most recognised modelling families.
