Investors subscribing to the ongoing Initial Public Offering (IPO) of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery have been assured of strong returns, with the management of Dangote Industries Limited declaring that the multi-billion-dollar project has started making profits and possesses huge growth potential.

The Vice President, Oil and Gas, Dangote Industries Limited, Edwin Devakumar, gave the assurance while highlighting the refinery’s operational performance, growing market share and strategic position in Africa’s energy value chain.

Devakumar said the refinery’s scale, integrated operations, infrastructure and access to domestic, regional and international markets placed it in a strong position to generate sustainable value for shareholders.

He declared that those investing in the IPO were backing a business with “strong fundamentals, enormous growth potential, and a proven capacity to generate sustainable returns.”

“The Dangote Refinery is one of the most significant industrial investments ever undertaken on the African continent. It addresses a critical gap in the energy sector while creating substantial economic value,” Devakumar said.

“Those investing in the refinery’s ongoing IPO are investing in a business with strong fundamentals, enormous growth potential, and a proven capacity to generate sustainable returns.”

‘We Have Started Making Profit’

Devakumar disclosed that the refinery had started making profits, while reiterating that the facility was established to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products and strengthen the country’s energy security.

According to him, the refinery is also expected to conserve foreign exchange, create employment and transform Nigeria into a major exporter of refined petroleum products to markets across Africa and beyond.

He said the IPO was not solely about raising capital, but also about broadening ownership of what he described as a strategic national asset.

“The objective is not merely to raise capital. It is to democratise ownership of a strategic national asset and allow millions of Nigerians and global investors to participate in the value being created by the refinery,” he said.

“We believe this is an opportunity for investors to become partners in Africa’s industrial transformation story.”

Devakumar said proceeds from the offering would be deployed to the company’s long-term growth initiatives, operational optimisation, expansion projects, working capital requirements and strategic investments across the petroleum value chain.

Scale, Port Infrastructure Give Refinery Edge

He identified the refinery’s integrated business model, advanced technology, large-scale production capacity, deep-water port infrastructure and extensive logistics network as key advantages that would be difficult for competitors to replicate.

“The refinery is strategically positioned to serve domestic, regional, and international markets,” Devakumar said.

“Demand for refined petroleum products across Africa continues to grow, and our scale, efficiency, and location provide a unique advantage in capturing these opportunities. This translates directly into long-term value creation for shareholders.”

The Dangote executive said the refinery’s ability to process different grades of crude oil and produce petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, liquefied petroleum gas and petrochemical feedstocks had created multiple revenue streams.

He said the diversification would strengthen the company’s earnings potential while allowing it to serve different segments of the energy market.

Devakumar also stressed the company’s commitment to corporate governance, transparency, financial discipline, environmental stewardship and operational excellence.

According to him, those principles would become even more important once the IPO was concluded and the company’s shares listed.

“Investors will benefit from regular financial disclosures, strict governance standards, and a management team focused on driving sustainable growth and profitability,” he said.

‘Investors Will Be Well-Positioned’

Devakumar expressed confidence that the refinery’s future earnings, expanding export footprint and strategic role in Africa’s energy security would sustain investor interest.

He described the IPO as an opportunity for investors to participate in what he called a landmark transformation of Africa’s energy landscape.

“This IPO represents more than an investment opportunity; it is an invitation to participate in a historic enterprise that is redefining the African energy landscape,” he said.

“We are confident that investors who subscribe to the offer will be well-positioned to reap bountiful returns as the refinery continues its growth journey and delivers value to shareholders.”
