The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed a total of ₦163.99 million to 3,215 students of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State, for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The university confirmed receipt of the funds in a letter dated September 3, 2026, signed by its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, and addressed to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND.
According to the university, the intervention was disbursed in eight tranches between December 2025 and February 2026, specifically to assist beneficiaries with payment of their registration fees for the academic session.
The largest tranche stood at ₦49.13 million, benefiting 980 students, while another ₦39.91 million was disbursed to 766 students.
Other tranches included ₦20.88 million for 393 students, ₦17.20 million for 318 students and ₦13.66 million for 214 students, among the eight payments made to the institution.
The university said the intervention had provided significant relief to students and their parents amid the prevailing economic challenges.
University Hails NELFUND Intervention
Bunkure, who expressed appreciation to NELFUND on behalf of the university, its students and the wider community, described the support as a major contribution towards keeping students in school despite financial difficulties.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended the education loan scheme for its potential wider social impact, particularly in helping young Nigerians remain engaged in education and reducing the pressures associated with economic hardship.
The university disclosed that beneficiary students were issued receipts as part of measures to ensure accountability, transparency and proper documentation of the funds.
The institution said the documentation would also provide a clear record of the financial assistance received by individual beneficiaries.
NELFUND’s intervention is part of the Federal Government’s broader effort to expand access to tertiary education by providing financial support to students who might otherwise struggle to meet the cost of their education.
