President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria must become the home base for the next generation of globally competitive African technology, finance and service companies.
Tinubu, in a post on his official X platform on Thirsday, said Nigeria possessed the talent, entrepreneurial drive and ambition required to build companies capable of competing in global markets, stressing that government must create an environment where Nigerians can realise that potential without relocating abroad.
The President said he was concerned that some of Nigeria’s promising young entrepreneurs had been compelled to establish their companies and intellectual property outside the country in order to gain access to global capital and international markets.
“For too long, some of our most promising young entrepreneurs have felt compelled to establish their companies and intellectual property abroad to access global capital and markets,” Tinubu said.
“I do not accept that this must remain the case.”
Tinubu Targets Global Tech Companies From Nigeria
The President said his administration’s responsibility was to ensure that Nigerian entrepreneurs could build and scale globally from within the country.
He said Nigeria should not merely produce talented founders for the global technology ecosystem, but should provide the conditions for their companies and intellectual property to remain rooted in the country.
“Our responsibility as a government is to ensure that Nigerians do not have to leave Nigeria or rely on other jurisdictions to realise that potential,” he said.
Tinubu declared that his vision was for the next generation of African technology, financial and service companies to be established, headquartered and scaled internationally from Nigeria.
“I want the next generation of African technology, finance and service companies to be built, headquartered and scaled to the world from Nigerian soil,” he said.
The President’s remarks place entrepreneurship, technology and the retention of Nigerian-owned intellectual property at the centre of his administration’s broader ambition to position the country as a major destination for globally oriented businesses.
