The Federal Ministry of Education has moved swiftly to quash a fake circular circulating on social media which purportedly announced an additional three-week holiday for students of Federal Unity Colleges across the country.
The ministry, in a statement issued on Saturday, September 12, 2026, described the document as fabricated and fraudulent, warning parents, students, teachers and other stakeholders not to fall for the false information.
According to the statement signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director, Press and Public Relations, the purported circular did not originate from the Federal Ministry of Education and should be completely disregarded.
The ministry stressed that Monday, September 14, 2026 remains the approved resumption date for students of all Federal Unity Colleges nationwide.
“There is no directive extending the holiday or shifting resumption to October 4, 2026,” the ministry declared.
The fake circular, reportedly dated September 8, 2026, carried the reference number “FME/SS/UNI/2026/128” and purported to bear the name and signature of “Dr. (Mrs.) Aisha Garba” as Permanent Secretary.
The ministry, however, exposed another glaring discrepancy in the document, stating that its Acting Permanent Secretary is Dr. Mrs. Folake Olatunji David.
The development has triggered renewed concerns over the circulation of fake government documents on social media, particularly those capable of causing confusion among millions of parents and students.
Resumption Still September 14
The Federal Ministry of Education urged parents, guardians and students to ignore the purported October 4 resumption date and proceed with preparations for the already-approved reopening of the Federal Unity Colleges on Monday.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, also assured parents, guardians, students and other stakeholders that the Federal Government remained committed to ensuring a safe, orderly and seamless resumption.
The ministry further called on members of the public to rely on its established communication channels when seeking clarification on official announcements.
It warned the public against reproducing, sharing or amplifying documents whose authenticity had not been verified.
The Federal Ministry of Education reiterated that it would continue to provide accurate, timely and transparent information, as it moved to prevent the fake circular from disrupting preparations for the new academic session.
