PORT HARCOURT — The presidential candidate of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has declared his willingness to put his life on the line alongside citizens determined to defend their ballots and reclaim Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing supporters during a town hall meeting in Port Harcourt on Thursday, the former governor of Anambra State charged the electorate to reject political intimidation as campaign activities begin to gather momentum across the federation.
Obi maintained that the immediate obligation confronting the electorate is to mount an uncompromising, aggressive demand to ensure that individual votes determine electoral outcomes.
“Don’t be intimidated,” Obi said. “Somebody said, ‘We are ready to die.’ Let me tell you, I’m equally ready to die. So you’re not alone.”
The NDC standard-bearer warned that while political actors will attempt to compromise the electoral machinery, such efforts will meet widespread civic resistance that will make manipulation far more difficult than in previous exercises.
He urged citizens to participate directly in grassroots campaign mobilization, arguing that national recovery requires collective sacrifice regardless of personal financial constraints.
Obi linked the nation’s prevailing socio-economic crises to recurring electoral fraud, asserting that compromises in past elections continue to yield administrative incompetence across critical sectors.
“By allowing them to continue, that glitch will glitch our life. That’s why we are suffering today,” Obi stated, adding that dysfunctional domestic refineries remain a direct consequence of defective political leadership.
