A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has thrown its weight behind the G-100 initiative, an emerging coalition of 100 opposition stalwarts seeking to forge a united political front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This is according to a statement by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Interim National Working Committee, Ini Ememobong
The PDP said its decision to participate in the process was driven by what it described as the worsening hardship, insecurity and poverty confronting Nigerians under the Bola Tinubu-led APC Federal Government.
The party said it was joining forces with other credible political parties and organisations in what it described as a collective search for Nigeria’s “redemption.”
The faction’s National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, said the party’s participation would be guided by transparency, equality, data-driven decision-making and egalitarian principles.
“Our participation is anchored on the promise that the process will be hinged on the philosophical underpinnings of transparency, equality, data-driven decisions and egalitarianism,” Turaki said.
He added that any outcome produced through such principles would give Nigerians “a credible leadership capable of alleviating the skyrocketing poverty and rising insecurity in the country.”
The opposition party said its participation in the inaugural meeting of the G-100 held on August 31, 2026, underscored its readiness to work with like-minded political forces to build an all-opposition platform capable of wresting power from the APC in 2027.
The PDP said the latest move was consistent with its earlier position to collaborate with political parties and organisations committed to salvaging the country from what it described as the “many vices orchestrated by the ruling APC.”
The party declared that the proposed opposition alliance would ultimately seek to take power from the incumbent and embark on a rebuilding agenda “for the good of all Nigerians.”
