APGA Sweeps Anambra Council Polls, Wins All 21 LGAs, 365 Wards

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has secured a clean sweep in the Anambra State local government elections, winning all 21 local government areas and 365 wards.

The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) announced the results on Saturday, with its chairman, Genevieve Osakwe, declaring APGA the winner at the commission’s headquarters in Awka.

According to Osakwe, APGA fielded candidates across all 21 local government areas, while the Young Progressives Party (YPP) presented a chairmanship candidate in Anambra East.

She said APGA emerged unopposed in 20 LGAs, where it was the only party to field candidates, resulting in a “yes or no” voting process.

In Anambra East, APGA polled 50,169 votes to defeat YPP, which recorded 1,658 votes.

Osakwe also confirmed the earlier councilorship results and formally ratified the election outcome.

She congratulated the winners and urged them to serve their constituents diligently, while calling on unsuccessful candidates to accept the outcome.

The commission chairman commended voters, political parties, security agencies, civil society groups, election officials and the media for their roles in the exercise.

She, however, said any candidate or political party dissatisfied with the results could seek redress through the appropriate legal channels.
