2027 Countdown: Tinubu, Akpabio Meet Behind Closed Doors At Aso Rock

President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio went into a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday evening, just hours before the official commencement of campaigns for the 2027 general elections.

Akpabio arrived at the forecourt of the President’s office at exactly 6:12pm in his official Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan before proceeding to the meeting with Tinubu.

The agenda of the high-level engagement was not immediately disclosed.

The timing of the meeting, however, comes at a politically significant moment, with the Independent National Electoral Commission fixing August 19 for the formal commencement of campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections.

At the time Akpabio arrived at the Villa, the Minister of Information and National Orientation was reportedly meeting with the President.

There was no official statement from the Presidency or the office of the Senate President on the subjects under discussion as of the time of the report.

Tinubu and Akpabio remain two of the most influential figures within the ruling political establishment, with the President heading the executive arm of government and Akpabio presiding over the Senate.

Their meeting comes as political parties, candidates and key power blocs begin positioning for what is expected to be an intense 2027 electoral contest.

With campaigns formally opening within hours, political attention is increasingly shifting towards the strategies, alliances and messages that will shape the race.
