OPay has rolled out a nationwide savings campaign offering customers 27 per cent annual interest and a chance to share in an additional ₦77 million interest pool as the digital financial services company moves to deepen savings culture among Nigerians.

The initiative, tagged the ‘OPay 7 Savings Festival’, is powered by the company’s digital savings platform, OWealth, and will run for 49 days, from August 10 to September 27, 2026.

Under the campaign, customers can create Target Savings plans ranging from ₦77,000 to ₦777,000, with those who consistently save towards their chosen targets and complete their plans without early withdrawals qualifying for the 27 per cent annual interest, daily interest and eligibility to share in the additional ₦77 million pool.

OPay said the initiative was designed to make saving more rewarding and accessible at a time when rising living costs are putting household finances and small businesses under increasing pressure.

The company said the campaign would shift the focus from one-off deposits to consistent savings discipline, allowing customers to set specific financial goals, monitor their progress and earn rewards for staying committed.

Speaking on the initiative, OPay’s Chief Commercial Officer, Elizabeth Wang, said the campaign reflected the company’s commitment to helping Nigerians strengthen their financial habits.

«“The OPay 7 Savings Festival reflects our commitment to helping Nigerians build stronger financial habits. By saving consistently towards their goals, customers can enjoy rewarding benefits, including an interest rate of 27 per cent per annum, while building financial confidence on a platform they can trust,” she said.»

According to the company, OWealth will give participants visibility into their savings targets, progress and rewards throughout the festival.

OPay said the approach was intended to encourage Nigerians to see savings as a long-term financial habit rather than an occasional activity.

The festival officially opened on August 10, while customers can create new Target Savings plans until September 20.

Final interest earnings and distributions from the additional ₦77 million interest pool are scheduled for September 27, the company said.

To participate, customers are required to log into the OPay app, navigate to the 7 Savings Festival page and create a Target Savings plan within the stipulated range before saving towards their selected target in line with the campaign conditions.

OPay said the initiative is aimed at Nigerians seeking to achieve tangible financial goals, including meeting personal expenses, expanding businesses, preparing for future needs and building financial reserves.

The company said stronger savings habits could improve financial resilience among individuals and small businesses, particularly as more Nigerians increasingly rely on digital platforms to manage their finances.

OPay also stressed the importance of trust and transparency in the rapidly expanding digital financial services sector, saying OWealth allows customers to track their savings and monitor their rewards throughout the campaign.

Established in 2018, OPay provides digital financial services including money transfers, bill payments, card services, airtime and data purchases and merchant payments.

The company said its services are backed by network reliability and security features designed to protect customers and their funds.

OPay is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), while its deposits are insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), subject to applicable terms and limits.

With the savings festival, OPay said it is seeking to expand its role beyond facilitating payments and transfers to helping Nigerians deliberately set money aside, pursue financial goals and build stronger saving habits.
