Messi Pays Tribute To Father, Ponders Playing On

Lionel Messi has broken his silence following the death of his father, Jorge Messi, with an emotional tribute that also revealed doubts about his future in football.

The Inter Miami captain described his father as his biggest supporter, friend and representative, recalling how Jorge took him to training as a child and remained closely involved in his career.

Messi said he had hoped Argentina would reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup final so his father could recover and watch him play. Argentina eventually reached the final, but Jorge was unable to attend.

The football star also revealed that he had wanted to win the tournament for his father but struggled physically during the competition.

Reflecting on his loss, Messi admitted that he was uncertain about continuing his playing career.

“I don’t know how to keep going,” he said, adding that he had spent his life playing football and now had “a lot of doubts” about whether he would continue for much longer.

Despite his grief, Messi said his father’s influence would live on through his family, particularly in how he raises his children.

He thanked Jorge for everything and promised to carry his memory with him, saying, “I love you, Dad.”
