Fresh Plateau Attacks Leave Two Dead, Homes Burnt

Two people have been killed, another injured and several houses burnt in fresh attacks on four Berom communities in Plateau State.

The attacks reportedly occurred on Tuesday night in Gwa-Wereng Rim, Kyeng Village in Bachi District, Dorong and Jol Village.

The Berom Youth Moulders Association confirmed the incidents in a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong.

The group said Bulus Mwagwong, popularly known as Dikko, was killed when gunmen attacked Gwa-Wereng Rim, while his cousin, Yakubu, sustained critical injuries.

It added that 47-year-old Stephen Dachollom Kaze was killed at Kyeng Village at about 8:30pm.

A resident, Lyop Gabriel, said gunmen invaded Gwa-Wereng Rim around 9:30pm and opened fire on residents.

The association said attackers also set houses ablaze in Dorong, forcing residents to flee, while gunmen exchanged fire with local vigilantes at Jol Village.

BYM National President, Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, condemned the attacks, describing them as a serious threat to rural communities and residents dependent on farming for their livelihoods.

The group called on security agencies to increase their presence in vulnerable areas, intensify surveillance and arrest those responsible.

It also appealed to the Plateau State Government to assist families affected by the attacks and urged residents to remain vigilant and peaceful.

The police spokesperson in Plateau State, Alabo Alfred, was unavailable for comment as of press time.
