UK Begins Three-Day Aviation Security Audit At Lagos Airport

The United Kingdom Department for Transport (DfT) has commenced a three-day aviation security operational assessment at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, as part of efforts to evaluate security standards for flights operating between Nigeria and the UK.

The assessment, which runs from August 4 to 6, 2026, is being conducted by the DfT Aviation Security (AVSEC) team and is aimed at reviewing the effectiveness of aviation security measures currently in place at Nigeria’s busiest international airport.

According to officials, the exercise will also assess security procedures applied to airlines operating direct flights from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport to the United Kingdom.

The assessment will cover the operations of Air Peace, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, with a focus on ensuring compliance with international aviation security requirements for UK-bound flights.

The exercise forms part of the UK’s routine aviation security oversight designed to ensure that airports and airlines operating services into the country maintain the required security standards and best practices.
