The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has commenced efforts to reunite aggrieved members following the party’s National Assembly primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As part of the peace initiative, members of the party’s State Working Committee on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to former Deputy Governor, Otunba Omolade Oluwateru, seeking his support in fostering unity within the party and mobilising members for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and President Bola Tinubu.
The delegation, led by the state APC Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Kolawole, said the visit formed part of the activities of the party’s reconciliation committee established to engage members dissatisfied with the outcome of the primaries.
Kolawole described Oluwateru as an experienced politician whose contributions remained valuable to the party, urging him to deploy his influence in calming tensions and strengthening cohesion among party members.
He acknowledged that disagreements were not unusual after party primaries but stressed that the APC leadership was determined to rebuild trust and close ranks ahead of the next general election.
“We recognise your experience and leadership qualities. This is why we are appealing for your continued support in bringing together members who may be unhappy with the outcome of the primaries. The party needs everyone working towards a common goal,” Kolawole said.
Responding, Oluwateru commended the party leadership for initiating the reconciliation process, describing it as a timely move capable of reinforcing unity within the APC.
The former deputy governor pledged his loyalty to the party and expressed readiness to work with its leadership to reconcile aggrieved members, insisting that Governor Aiyedatiwa remained the leader of the APC in Ondo State.
He said his decision to join the APC was driven by his desire to contribute to the party’s growth and support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, urging members to set aside their grievances and work together in the interest of the party.
