The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, has called on public servants to make their health a priority by undergoing regular medical check-ups to enable early detection and prevention of diseases.

Agoro made the appeal during the August edition of the monthly Walk for Fitness Exercise held at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, The Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, on Saturday.

He stressed that a healthy workforce remains critical to efficient and effective public service delivery, noting that maintaining good health is a collective responsibility.

“A healthy workforce is essential to effective and efficient service delivery,” Agoro said, urging workers to embrace preventive healthcare through routine medical examinations.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola, commended public servants for their consistent participation in the monthly fitness programme and encouraged them to sustain healthy lifestyle habits.

She also urged workers to maintain proper personal hygiene as part of efforts to safeguard their wellbeing.

Delivering a health talk, a Health Educator with the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Adefunke Amodu, underscored the importance of periodic medical examinations, particularly screening for hepatitis, describing the disease as a viral infection that primarily affects the liver.

She advised public servants to know their health status through regular check-ups and adopt preventive measures against infection.

Amodu also warned against unprotected sexual intercourse, exposure to unsterilised medical equipment and sharp objects, as well as excessive alcohol consumption.
