The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday decorated 30 newly promoted senior police officers, charging them to lead with integrity, uphold professionalism and strengthen public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
The colourful ceremony, held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, saw 13 officers formally decorated as Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and 17 others elevated to the rank of Commissioners of Police (CPs).
Addressing the officers, Disu described their promotions as more than a reward for years of meritorious service, saying the new ranks come with greater responsibility and higher expectations.
“Your promotion is a call to higher responsibility,” the IGP declared, recalling the personal sacrifices many officers had made in the course of duty.
He noted that policing often required officers to miss birthdays, family celebrations and other important milestones, while commending their families for standing by them throughout their careers.
Disu urged the newly promoted officers to wear their ranks with humility and to lead with both integrity and humanity.
“Officers who genuinely fight for the welfare of the men and women they command will, in turn, earn their loyalty and support,” he said.
The police chief further charged the officers to build public trust through their conduct, mentor younger personnel and provide leadership worthy of the expectations of Nigerians.
“Build public confidence in the Force through your conduct and decisions. Mentor the younger officers who look up to you and lead in a manner worthy of the hopes of the next generation,” he added.
The newly decorated AIGs are Obono Nnaghe Itam, Bassey Samuel Ewah, Osagie John Agans-Irabor, Monday Agbonika, Iyamah Daniel Edobor, Isah Danladi Nda, Akaninyene Ifebem Ezima, Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, Bello Rashid Afegbua, Hycenth Azuka Edozie, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin.
Also decorated were the 17 new Commissioners of Police, including Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle Aremu Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Rita Oyintare Oki, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na’aliyu, Nurudeen A. Sabo, Tijani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Etaifo, Taiwo A. Adedeji, Ibrahim Umar D. Zungura and Zainab Audu Pembi.
The event attracted top government officials, security chiefs and traditional rulers, including the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Peter Agbe Odey, the Controller-General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, and other dignitaries.
The Nigeria Police Force said the promotions underscore its commitment to the welfare, professional development and operational readiness of its personnel as it continues efforts to build a more accountable and people-oriented police service.
