PFIPC Probe: Reps Summon Foreign Affairs Minister, NSA

The House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Security Adviser (NSA) to explain how the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) operated despite concerns over its legal status.

The summons followed testimony by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Umar Ahmed, who told lawmakers the ministry had no official dealings with the council and had sought clarification from the NSA after identifying irregularities in its correspondence.

Ahmed said Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claimed to be Director-General of the PFIPC, wrote to the ministry on three occasions between June 2025 and June 2026 seeking support for a proposed World Investment Summit, but the requests were ignored due to discrepancies and concerns about the council’s legitimacy.

According to the ministry, the Office of the NSA later informed it that enquiries with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President showed that Adeyemi was unknown to the Federal Government.

Lawmakers questioned why stronger action was not taken after the council was declared illegal and expressed concern that it allegedly organised events attended by foreign diplomats despite lacking legal recognition.

The committee said the NSA must explain what steps were taken after confirming the council’s status, while the Minister of Foreign Affairs is expected to appear before the panel on Thursday as the investigation continues.
