Bafana Bafana Star Jayden Adams Passes Away Aged 25

The South African football community has been thrown into mourning following the death of midfielder Jayden Adams at the age of 25.

The South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) confirmed the player’s passing, describing it as an immeasurable loss to his family, teammates and the nation. South Africa’s Ministry of Sport also announced his death, although no official cause has been disclosed.

Adams recently represented Bafana Bafana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring in three matches as South Africa reached the knockout stage of the tournament for the first time in the country’s history.

His mentor, Brendine Johnson, said the midfielder had been looking forward to returning to club football after the World Cup and spending time with his family.

“He was really positive about returning after the World Cup and being able to continue, knowing what lies ahead. He was prepared. He loved spending his time at home with his family,” Johnson said.

He added that the family was struggling to come to terms with the tragedy and appealed for privacy as they mourned.

Adams began his professional career with Stellenbosch FC before joining Mamelodi Sundowns in 2025, where he helped the club win the CAF Champions League during the 2025/26 season.

 He made his senior international debut for South Africa in 2022 and earned 13 caps, scoring twice during the country’s successful 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
