There’s Some Truth To ‘School Na Scam,’ Says Jim Iyke

Veteran Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has stirred fresh debate over the value of formal education, saying the popular phrase “school na scam” contains some truth based on his personal experience.

Speaking in an interview with media personality Joey Akan, the actor said he has outperformed many of his former lecturers despite his academic background, arguing that classroom knowledge alone is not enough to guarantee success.

According to him, practical lessons from parents, mentors and experienced traders played a greater role in shaping his career than theories taught in school.

“I am doing better than all my lecturers. If I had applied everything they taught me verbatim, I wouldn’t have been successful,” he said, recalling a meeting with one of his late lecturers.

Jim Iyke also argued that many of the world’s wealthiest individuals achieved success without advanced academic qualifications, adding that he employs a PhD holder.

While acknowledging the importance of education, the actor maintained that real-world experience, resilience and economic survival skills are often more valuable than classroom instruction alone.
