1. SGF Approved Adeyemi’s Canada Summit Trip, Documents Reveal

   Fresh documents have fuelled the PFIPC controversy after showing the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation approved a 2025 Canada trip for Director-General Adeniyi Adeyemi, contradicting the Presidency’s claim that the council never existed and that he acted as an impostor.

   Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the PDP and SERAP demanded an independent investigation, while SERAP urged the National Assembly to explain the ₦1.3 billion budget allocation to the council, warning of legal action if the documents are not released within seven days.

2. Court Orders Forfeiture Of More Ex-Power Minister Mamman’s Luxury Properties To FG

   A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the permanent forfeiture of Walijam Apartments linked to former Power Minister Saleh Mamman, after ruling it was acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities. Four other properties were placed under interim forfeiture pending public claims.

   Mamman, who is serving a 75-year prison sentence after being convicted of corruption and money laundering involving ₦33.8 billion, was also ordered to refund ₦22 billion traced to him by the EFCC.

3.  UBA Announces Tony Elumelu’s Retirement, Appoints New Chairman 

   United Bank for Africa (UBA) has announced that Group Chairman Tony Elumelu will retire on August 21, 2026, after completing the Central Bank of Nigeria’s maximum 12-year tenure for non-executive directors. Current non-executive director Emmanuel Nnorom will succeed him.

   UBA credited Elumelu with expanding the bank’s presence to 20 African countries and four global financial centres, growing its customer base to over 50 million. The bank said the transition complies with the CBN’s corporate governance guidelines.

4. Court Fines ADC Official ₦100m Over Suit Against Judges 

   A Federal High Court in Abuja struck out a suit filed by ADC National Welfare Secretary Nkemakolam Ukandu against the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, and Justice Peter Lifu, after he and his lawyer repeatedly failed to appear in court.

   Justice Salim Ibrahim dismissed the case for lack of diligent prosecution and awarded ₦100 million in costs against Ukandu, describing the suit, which alleged judicial bias and abuse of powers, as frivolous.

5. DSS Asks Court To Remand Sowore Pending Bail Perfection 

   The Department of State Services (DSS) has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to remand Omoyele Sowore, arguing he failed to meet the conditions of the ₦200 million bail granted on June 30 in his criminal defamation trial over social media posts describing President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.”

   Sowore’s lawyer said the bail conditions had been fulfilled and were awaiting court verification. Justice Mohammed Umar reserved his decision until the end of Monday, while the defence opened its case with lawyer Deji Adeyanju testifying as its first witness.

6.  No Money Paid To PFIPC, Says Accountant-General 

   The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) said no public funds were released to the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), explaining that its proposed Central Bank of Nigeria account was never opened because authorised signatories were not provided.

   The OAGF said the PFIPC’s ₦1.303 billion 2026 budget only took effect in July and the account also lacked the Accountant-General’s approval, making any payment impossible. It added that deployed staff would now serve as prosecution witnesses.

7.  Police Storm Ogbomoso Home, Detain Alleged PFIPC Fake DG’s Father 

   The controversy over the alleged Presidential Fiscal and Infrastructure Projects Council (PFIPC) deepened after police reportedly arrested the father of Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi, the main suspect in an alleged forgery case. Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) described the arrest as unlawful, saying Adeniyi had already agreed to appear in court.

   Residents said police also detained a family friend during the operation, while Adeniyi’s mother was left distressed. The police had not commented on the claims, which remain unverified. Falana urged that the case be resolved through the courts without intimidation or interference.

8.   UI Confirms Release Of Kidnapped 300-Level Law Student 

   A 300-level Law student of the University of Ibadan, Miss Fumilayo, has regained her freedom after being abducted alongside several others, the University’s Students’ Union confirmed on Monday.

   The union said she was undergoing post-release procedures before returning to campus and thanked security agencies, the university management, the Scripture Union and the university community for their support in securing her release.

9.  2027: INEC, ICPC Partner To Train Electoral Staff on Corruption-Free Elections

   The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has begun training electoral officials on integrity and corruption prevention as part of preparations for the 2027 general election.

   At the workshop in Abuja, both agencies stressed that transparency and accountability are essential for credible elections, saying the initiative would strengthen electoral officers’ capacity to promote public trust and reduce election-related malpractice.

10. Three To Face Trial Over Killing Of Ogun Broadcaster, Security Guard

    Three suspects arrested over the alleged murder of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster Kitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, are set to be arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Abeokuta as police continue investigations.

    Police said forensic evidence led to the arrest of the prime suspect, who allegedly confessed to planning the attack. Investigators recovered the victims’ stolen vehicle and other exhibits, assuring that all suspects would face prosecution.
