NCAA Fines Saudi Airlines N6m Over Consumer Protection Violations

In a notice issued on Friday, the NCAA said the penalty followed the airline’s failure to address several outstanding consumer protection issues despite repeated interventions by the regulator.

The authority disclosed that it had earlier supported the airline in preventing a breakdown of law and order at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport a few months ago and subsequently granted it additional time to resolve pending issues and comply with determinations made by the regulator.

According to the NCAA, the N6 million sanction became necessary to enforce compliance with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, which deals with consumer protection obligations.

The regulator expressed hope that the action would compel the airline to significantly improve its operations in Nigeria.

It stressed that passengers travelling to and from Nigeria deserve to be treated with respect and protected from service failures, adding that the authority remains committed to ensuring airlines meet the required standards.

The NCAA also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Saudia and other airlines operating in the country to achieve optimal operational performance while complying with Nigeria’s aviation regulations.
