Mustapha Kwankwaso Emerges As Kano NDC Deputy Governorship Candidate

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has named Mustapha Kwankwaso, son of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, ahead of the 2027 election in Kano State.

The decision was confirmed on Monday by Gwarzo’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, who said the choice followed consultations with party stakeholders and was aimed at strengthening the party’s electoral prospects.

According to Shuaibu, Mustapha’s selection reflects the party’s commitment to unity, inclusiveness and broad representation across the state.

Mustapha is the son of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the national leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

Political observers say his emergence could boost the movement’s influence within the NDC as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.

Gwarzo, a former Deputy Governor of Kano State, emerged as the party’s governorship candidate following consultations among party leaders and stakeholders.
