Actor Yul Edochie has weighed in on the debate surrounding the late Alex Ekubo’s private marriage, saying public figures should not conceal aspects of their personal lives out of fear of public criticism.
Edochie made the remarks while reacting to online discussions sparked by bloggers sharing photos and videos of Ekubo’s wife following the actor’s death. The posts drew criticism from social media users who accused blogs of invading the family’s privacy.
According to Edochie, attempts to avoid public scrutiny are often futile because people will always have opinions.
“He shouldn’t have hidden anything from anyone. It wasn’t necessary. People must learn to stop worrying about what people say. No matter what you do in life, people must talk,” he said.
The actor advised individuals to live freely and ignore negative commentary, arguing that public criticism is an inevitable part of life.
“So leave them to talk. Leave blogs to blog. To be great in life you must never make yourself small for any one or any reason. Give them things to talk about while you ignore them and enjoy your life,” he added.
Edochie’s comments came in response to a post by skit maker Nasboi, who criticised blogs for sharing images of Ekubo’s wife and described the practice as exploitative.
Nasboi maintained that Ekubo had deliberately kept his marriage away from public attention and accused blogs of disregarding that decision after the actor’s passing.
