APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe says he narrowly escaped an attack by a group of youths at Lagos’ Ladipo Market, dismissing reports that he was assaulted during the incident.

Igbokwe said he visited the popular market on Friday to buy spare parts for his vehicle when some youths recognised him and began gathering around him.

According to him, the crowd became increasingly hostile, forcing him to seek refuge in a friend’s shop before market leaders intervened.

“I got the parts and went to my vehicle to fix it. Before I knew it, the Ladipo boys started gathering and shouting, ‘This is Igbokwe,’” he said in a video posted on Facebook.

The APC chieftain said he later discovered social media reports claiming he had been beaten, but insisted the reports were false.

“I came to Facebook this morning and saw a post that Joe Igbokwe was beaten. I was not beaten. This is me,” he said.

Igbokwe added that he eventually left the market safely after the intervention of its leadership.
