Defections Hit PDP As Six Oyo Lawmakers Switch To APM

The defections were announced on Tuesday during plenary by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who also read out 13 defection letters involving lawmakers across different parties.

The affected Oyo lawmakers, reportedly aligned with Governor Seyi Makinde, include Anthony Adebayo, Adedeji Olajide, Sunday Makanjuola, Oyedeji Oyeshina, Fola Oyekunle and Adigun Adekunle.

In their letters, the lawmakers cited prolonged internal crisis and leadership struggles within the PDP as reasons for their decision to switch platforms.

The development comes shortly after reports that Governor Makinde had aligned with the APM and signaled a presidential ambition under the party’s platform for 2027.

The PDP, however, experienced mixed fortunes on the same day, as it lost and gained members in the House.

Other defections included a Bauchi lawmaker who moved from PDP to APM, a Katsina representative who left the APC for PDP, and a Delta lawmaker who defected from the Labour Party to PDP.

Meanwhile, some lawmakers defended their moves as responses to internal party disagreements and constituency consultations.
