Arrests Made As DSS Tracks Weapons Used In Papiri Abduction

The Department of State Services (DSS) says it has arrested five suspected arms couriers, including two Nigerien nationals, in connection with the weapons supply network behind the Papiri school abduction in Niger State.

Security sources said the suspects were linked to the November 2025 attack on St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri village, where armed men abducted nearly 300 students and staff.
During the operation, operatives reportedly recovered 15 AK-103 rifles, 15 magazines and 1,434 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
Investigators said the arrests began with two suspects intercepted along the Zaria–Kaduna Highway, allegedly while transporting weapons to their commanders. This led to further arrests of members of the network operating across Niger Republic and northern Nigeria.
A fifth suspect was later apprehended in Kebbi State, with authorities saying he played a role in distributing weapons across the region.
According to security sources, preliminary findings suggest the suspects supplied arms used in the attack on the school, where over 250 victims were taken into captivity before being moved into the Kainji Lake Reserve forest.
A number of the abducted pupils reportedly escaped, while others were later rescued following coordinated security operations.
