NANS Plans Oyo Protest Over Abducted Students, Teachers

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced plans to stage a solidarity and advocacy rally in Oyo State on Monday to demand the rescue of students and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.

NANS President Akinteye Babatunde said the nationwide mobilisation became necessary following the continued captivity of the victims nearly two weeks after the attack.

According to him, the rally will include visits to the affected schools in Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities, as well as courtesy calls on the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Services.

The association also plans a peaceful walk in Ibadan to draw attention to growing insecurity and press for the immediate release of the abductees.

Akinteye called on student leaders, civil society groups and other stakeholders to join the movement, insisting that students across the country cannot remain silent while innocent pupils and teachers remain in captivity.

Gunmen had attacked schools in Oriire Local Government Area, abducting dozens of students and teachers. A teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly killed during the incident.
