21-Year-Old Nigerian Footballer Dies In Abuja After Suspected Food Poisoning

The football community has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of 21-year-old Nigerian footballer, Victor Akaniyene Udoh, who reportedly died after a suspected case of food poisoning while on holiday in Nigeria.

According to reports by BSNSports.com.ng, the former Royal Antwerp striker suddenly fell critically ill and was rushed to a hospital in Abuja, where he later passed away despite efforts to save his life.

Udoh, who was born on October 18, 2004, in Akwa Ibom State, was regarded as one of Nigeria’s promising young football talents. He relocated to Belgium in 2023 and quickly made a name for himself in Royal Antwerp’s youth team with impressive performances and goals that earned him a first-team debut.

The young striker also had stints with Southampton FC in England and Czech club SK Dynamo České Budějovice during his budding career.

Reports indicate that Udoh had gone out with friends on the eve of the incident before he was allegedly found unresponsive the following morning. Although early suspicions point to possible food or drink poisoning, authorities have yet to officially confirm the exact cause of death.

His sudden passing has sparked grief among football fans, friends, and former teammates, many of whom have taken to social media to pay tribute to the late footballer.
