Wizkid, Burna, Asake, Tems Secure BET Awards Nods

Nigerian music stars Wizkid, Tems, Burna Boy and Asake have secured major nominations for the BET Awards, further underlining Nigeria’s growing influence on the global music stage.

The nominations for the annual awards ceremony, scheduled for June 28 in Los Angeles, were announced on Tuesday, with Nigerian artists featuring prominently across multiple categories.

Wizkid and Asake earned a joint nomination in the Best Group category, reflecting the success of their recent collaborative efforts and chart-topping releases.

Tems emerged as one of Africa’s most nominated acts this year, receiving three nods — Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, BET Her Award for her hit song First, and the Viewers’ Choice Award for Raindance, her collaboration with Dave.

Burna Boy also secured a nomination in the Best Collaboration category for WGFT, his feature on Gunna’s track.

The nominations reinforce Nigeria’s longstanding dominance at the BET Awards, where its artistes have consistently made strong showings. Wizkid remains one of Africa’s most decorated BET winners, while Burna Boy has repeatedly claimed honours in international categories.

Other Nigerian stars who have won at the awards over the years include Davido, 2Baba, D’banj, Ice Prince and Ayra Starr, who won Best International Act in 2025.

Beyond music, talents of Nigerian descent also earned recognition in acting categories, with Ayo Edebiri and Cynthia Erivo nominated for Best Actress, while Damson Idris received a Best Actor nod.
