The media office of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a blistering attack on Sahara Reporters over reports questioning the health status of the 2027 presidential hopeful, describing the publication as “fiction” and “a regrettable descent into yellow journalism.”

In a strongly worded statement issued Monday in Abuja, the Atiku Media Office insisted that the Waziri Adamawa remains “hale, hearty, and fully engaged” in preparations for the forthcoming African Democratic Congress screening and primary election.

The statement came amid growing political speculation surrounding the former presidential candidate’s activities ahead of the 2027 race.

According to the media office, Atiku had only recently submitted his nomination forms and has since maintained an active schedule of political engagements.

“His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar, is hale, hearty, and fully engaged in preparations for the ADC screening and primary election,” the statement read.

The camp further disclosed that the former vice president observed Juma’at prayers at a mosque on Friday before proceeding with “high-level consultations and strategic meetings with key party stakeholders” as part of ongoing political realignments within the party.

In a direct swipe at Sahara Reporters, the statement accused the platform of abandoning professional journalism in favour of sensationalism and unverified claims.

“It is unfortunate that a platform that should be guided by facts has chosen the path of reckless speculation, anonymous gossip, and manufactured falsehoods,” the statement declared.

“Journalism is not rumor peddling, it is a sacred pact with truth and facts.”

The Atiku camp urged Nigerians to ignore the report entirely, insisting that the ADC chieftain remains focused and prepared for the political battles ahead.

“Nigerians should disregard this mischievous report in its entirety. The ADC chieftain remains strong, focused, and fully prepared for the task ahead,” the statement added.
