Rivers APC Screening Not My Business, Says Wike

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has distanced himself from the controversy surrounding the All Progressives Congress screening of aspirants in Rivers State, insisting he is not a member of the party and has no role in its internal affairs.

Speaking during an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja on Monday, Wike said: “I’m not a member of APC, so I don’t know what is happening in their screening… I’m not a native doctor, neither am I a prophet.”

On political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, he said his “rainbow coalition” in Rivers would adopt a pragmatic approach, supporting parties based on political strength in different areas.

Wike also expressed satisfaction with the progress of several road and bridge projects in the FCT, saying many would be ready for inauguration as part of President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary celebrations.

Addressing complaints over aggressive tax enforcement by Abuja Municipal Area Council officials, the minister urged civility in tax collection while noting that many residents often resist paying taxes.
