Fresh Plateau Attack Leaves 13 Dead, Several Injured

Fresh bloodshed has rocked Plateau State after suspected gunmen stormed Ngbra Zongo community in Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area, killing at least 13 residents and leaving several others critically injured.

The deadly attack, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, threw the quiet community into chaos as terrified residents fled into surrounding bushes to escape the onslaught.

A resident, Mr. Philip Alanga, narrated how the assailants invaded the area at about midnight, shooting sporadically before unleashing machete attacks on helpless villagers.

“They came into the community around midnight and started shooting and hacking people to death. They moved from one house to another, attacking innocent people,” Alanga told journalists in Jos.

According to him, the attackers left a trail of destruction, forcing many residents to abandon their homes in fear for their lives.

He disclosed that several victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed for urgent medical attention, while families were left mourning loved ones killed in the carnage.

Reacting to the incident, Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Mr. Danjuma Auta, condemned the killings, describing the attack as “barbaric, tragic and condemnable.”

Auta lamented the recurring wave of violence across communities in Bassa Local Government Area and other parts of Plateau State, warning that residents have continued to live under constant fear.

He called on security agencies to intensify surveillance operations and provide stronger protection for vulnerable rural communities frequently targeted by armed attackers.

The IDA official also urged security operatives to swiftly track down the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice to halt further bloodshed in the state.

As of press time, efforts to get an official response from the police proved abortive, as calls made to the spokesperson were not answered.
