In a very well-timed reconciliation call, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State in 2027, Prince Laja Adeoye, has called on all members of his party nationwide, and in particular, in Lagos, to put aside the hatchet and join the newly power-enhanced Board of Trustees (BOT).a

In a speech on Friday, Adeoye hailed the historic April 30, 2026, Supreme Court ruling as a gift bestowed by God to the PDP to have a clean sheet, recover and reassert its position as the leading opposition party in Nigeria.

The apex court struck down in a split 32 vote decision the controversial Ibadan National Convention of November 1516, 2025 that led to the formation of the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki led National Working Committee. In another unanimous decision, the court affirmed the suspension of the former National Secretary Senator, Samuel Anyanwu, Kamaldeen Ajibade and other senior officials and declared all the acts performed by them subsequent to their suspension to be ab initio.

Now that both of these parallel structures have been constitutionally rendered dead, the mainstream Board of Trustees, headed by the reputable Chairman, Chief Adolphus Wabara and the Secretary, Senator Babangida Aliyu has officially intervened so as to avoid any leadership vacuum. The BOT has already instructed the party personnel to report to work in the national

secretariat at the Wadata Plaza and has already announced that there would be an emergency meeting of a National Executive Committee (NEC) in order to form a neutral interim leadership with the view to ensuring genuine reconciliation.

Prince Adeoye, who has been a strong spokesman of unity in the party in Lagos, hailed the decision as a statesmanlike intervention that would unite and not divide the PDP.

Our great party has been given a new birth by the Supreme Court, he announced. It is a critical time, and all members of the peace-loving and progressive party should not be tempted to extend the division, but the fragile peace that was restored should be cultivated, not endangered. There are no losers and no winners, but just one PDP willing to fight and win in 2027.

He particularly praised Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Chief Olabode George, and other leaders that remained unwavering in the court battle, noting how dogged they had been as a sign of their undying adherence to the rule of law and party constitution.

At this stage, all the aggrieved members regardless of the side of the divide they were on, shall submit to the authority of the mainstream BOT. We cannot risk taking any step that will disqualify the party in the forthcoming general elections or deny our aspirants a chance to beat the nomination deadlines by INEC, Adeoye stressed.

The Lagos PDP Governorship candidate also urged all leaders of the parties in the South-West and more so in Lagos State to instantly embark on intensive outreach to aggrieved members.

The call is to cross the aisle, mend the fences, and restore everyone to the fold. Lagos PDP must be ahead of the pack and deliver the people and the party a credible alternative in 2027. The people of Lagos are waiting and hoping to have a credible alternative. This is our time to rise above personal interests and put the people and the party first.

Prince Adeoye ended by restating his unshaken allegiance to the PDP and his willingness to collaborate with the BOT-led process towards a complete renaissance of the party in Lagos and the entire nation.

One is the PDP, alive is the PDP, and with the guidance of the Board of Trustees, we shall be back stronger, united and ready to provide the good governance that the people of Nigeria deserve.
