Labour Party Elects Nenadi Usman As Substantive National Chairman

The Labour Party has elected Nenadi Usman as its substantive national chairman, formalising her leadership at the party’s 2026 convention in Umuahia.

Usman, who previously served in an acting capacity, was elected alongside other National Working Committee members, including Iheanacho Obioma as national secretary and Hilda Dokubo as national women leader.

The convention adopted a consensus and affirmative voting method to fill the positions.

Speaking at the event, Alex Otti praised the process as credible and urged the new leadership to prioritise reconciliation, internal cohesion, and transparent primaries ahead of future elections.

In her acceptance speech, Usman thanked party members for their confidence and pledged inclusive leadership, stressing that rebuilding the party would require collective effort and cooperation.
