The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has debunked reports that it invited the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, to serve as ‘Royal Father of the Day’ at a proposed Ecumenical Chapel project in Abuja, describing the claim as false and misleading.a
In a statement issued Saturday, CAN clarified that it did not extend any such invitation, noting that the circulating material originated from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), not the association.
The body warned that the narrative could inflame religious tensions, suggesting it may have been deliberately framed to create controversy.
Reaffirming its commitment to peaceful coexistence, CAN urged the public and media to verify information before sharing, insisting the Sultan was never invited and calling on Nigerians to disregard the claim.
