President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and 2023 Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi have all taken to social media to felicitate Christians during the 2026 Easter celebrations.
The trio in separate messages on their social media platform, emphasizing themes of sacrifice, unity, hope, and resilience amid Nigeria’s current challenges.
In a personal statement, Tinubu reflected on the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, describing Easter as a reminder of the redemptive power of salvation and a call to unity in the face of Nigeria’s current realities.
Acknowledging the nation’s economic strain and persistent security challenges, the President commended the Armed Forces for their sacrifices and assured Nigerians that his administration is making resources available and forging foreign partnerships to confront terrorism and banditry. He cited his recent visit to Jos, Plateau State, where he commiserated with victims of violence and offered reassurances of better days ahead.
Tinubu emphasized that no nation can thrive where fear prevails, urging citizens to support lawful efforts, reject forces that threaten collective well-being, and remain steadfast in the pursuit of peace. He noted that ongoing reforms, though demanding, are designed to lead Nigeria toward shared prosperity.
“As I have often said, true transformation cannot be achieved without sacrifice, and history affirms that enduring progress is often forged in moments such as these,” Tinubu stated.
With Nigeria approaching another electoral cycle, the President also reminded political actors of the need for civic responsibility, maturity, and adherence to the Electoral Act. He stressed that democracy flourishes where restraint and informed participation prevail.
Despite current pressures, Tinubu expressed optimism that economic indicators show Nigeria is on the right path. He urged citizens to keep faith in the administration’s efforts, contribute to national progress, and remain hopeful for a safer, more prosperous future.
“I wish you all a Happy Easter,” he concluded.
On his part, Atiku in a statement issued by his Media Office, Atiku called on the government to live up to its constitutional responsibility of ensuring the security and welfare of all citizens and residents in Nigeria.
“Atiku Abubakar extends warm felicitations to all Christians in Nigeria and across the world as they celebrate Easter,” the statement read.
He described the celebration as a season of solemn reflection, intense sacrifice, and divine love, urging Christians to use the period for deep introspection, repentance, and renewal of hope.
“Atiku encourages all Christians to emulate the selflessness, forgiveness, and compassion of Jesus Christ in their daily lives. The essence of Easter is sacrifice and love. We must seize this opportunity to show genuine love and compassion to one another,” he said.
The former Vice President also reminded the government of its primary duty under the Constitution to protect the lives and property of citizens and provide an enabling environment for all Nigerians to thrive, regardless of tribe or religion.
“Atiku wishes all Christian families a happy, peaceful, and joyous Easter celebration,” the statement concluded.
Similarly, Obi in his Easter message drew on the symbolism of the season, noting that just as “Good Friday must come before Easter Sunday,”
Nigeria’s present difficulties should not define its future. He acknowledged the heavy burden many families are carrying due to economic hardship, describing these struggles as temporary trials that can lead to renewal if citizens remain resilient and committed to the common good.
Obi emphasized that Nigeria continues to face serious challenges in governance, with direct impacts on the daily lives of citizens. However, he stressed that Easter serves as a reminder that after sacrifice comes renewal, and after darkness comes light. He called for accountability, compassion, and responsible leadership as pathways to building a better Nigeria.
