AFCON Controversy: Senegal Challenge CAF Decision

Africa Cup of Nations champions Senegal national football team have moved to overturn their controversial title loss, filing an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against a ruling by the Confederation of African Football.

CAF had stripped Senegal of their 1-0 final victory over Morocco national football team, awarding the match 3-0 to Morocco after Senegal players briefly walked off in protest of a late penalty decision.

The disputed incident occurred in stoppage time, when referee Jean-Jacques Ndala awarded Morocco a penalty following a VAR review. Senegal players halted play for nearly 20 minutes before returning, with Sadio Mane helping to restore calm. The penalty was saved, and Pape Gueye later scored the decisive goal in extra time.

CAS confirmed receipt of the appeal, which seeks to reinstate Senegal as champions, adding that proceedings will be handled swiftly while ensuring fairness to all parties.
