Zelensky Confirms Ukraine-US Peace Talks In Geneva

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that Kyiv’s chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, will meet US envoy Steve Witkoff in Geneva on Thursday, as diplomatic efforts intensify to end the war with Russia.

The talks are expected to lay the groundwork for a proposed trilateral meeting involving Russia in early March. Speaking to reporters, Zelensky said Umerov would also meet Jared Kushner as part of preparations for broader negotiations.

According to Zelensky, discussions will cover potential prisoner-of-war exchanges and what he described as a “prosperity package” aimed at supporting Ukraine’s reconstruction.

The renewed diplomatic push is part of an initiative led by US President Donald Trump, though previous rounds have failed to produce a breakthrough in ending Russia’s four-year invasion.

Witkoff earlier confirmed the upcoming talks, saying the goal was to “explore different iterations about how we might get to a peace deal.”

Despite ongoing efforts, Moscow and Kyiv remain divided over territorial control, particularly in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region. While Russia seeks full control of the area, Ukraine has rejected the demand and insists that any settlement must include firm security guarantees to prevent future aggression.
