FG Launches Distribution Of 2,000 Tractors To Farmers

The Federal Government has launched the distribution of 2,000 tractors and over 9,000 implements nationwide under the Renewed Hope National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme, the largest mechanisation drive in Africa.

Speaking at the launch, the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, CON, said the phased distribution will begin with 600 tractors, followed by 750 and 650 units, adding that over 100,000 applications were received for the first phase alone.

The tractors will be deployed through Mechanisation Service Providers under a lease-to-own model, with each tractor expected to serve about 600 hectares annually, expanding access to mechanisation for over one million farmers.

The programme also includes structured financing, maintenance support, mobile service trucks and the development of mechanisation centres to ensure sustainability and long-term impact.

“This is the largest mechanisation drive in Africa, not for private ownership, but for service to farmers through MSPs, unlocking productivity for over 1.2 million farmers across 1.5 million hectares yearly.

“This is Renewed Hope in motion. We are mechanising productivity, industrialising agriculture, and securing Nigeria’s food future” Kyari disclosed.
