Schools In Kogi Temporarily Closed To Protect Pupils, Says Govt

The Kogi State Government has explained that the temporary closure of schools was a preventive measure based on credible intelligence, aimed at safeguarding pupils, students, and teachers.

Speaking in Lokoja on Tuesday, State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, said the decision reflected responsibility, not panic. He noted that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed security agencies to ensure schools resume safely to avoid disrupting the academic calendar.

Fanwo praised security agencies for their timely intelligence and reassured residents that operations are ongoing to locate and neutralize criminal hideouts. “The safety of our children, teachers, and educational institutions remains non-negotiable,” he said.

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Kogi confirmed that the midterm break has been fast-tracked, with schools expected to resume on 16 February 2026.
