Over 80% Pass As NECO Releases 2025 SSCE External Results

More than eight in every 10 candidates who sat for the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External conducted by the National Examinations Council recorded at least five credit passes, NECO has announced.

The Registrar and Chief Executive of the council, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press briefing in Minna, Niger State, to formally release the results.

According to him, 68,166 candidates, representing 71.63 per cent, obtained five credits including English Language and Mathematics, while 82,082 candidates (86.26 per cent) achieved five credits irrespective of the two core subjects.

NECO said 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, out of which 95,160 sat for the papers. Performance was strongest in Mathematics, where 91.35 per cent earned credit and above, while 78.32 per cent achieved the same in English Language.

On examination malpractice, Wushishi revealed that 9,016 candidates were involved in various offences, a 31.7 per cent increase from the 6,160 cases recorded in 2024. He added that five supervisors were recommended for blacklisting, while four centres were marked for de-recognition over whole-centre malpractice.

The SSCE External examination is taken mainly by private candidates seeking certification outside the regular school system or those aiming to improve previous results.
